AKRON — Joy Kim made her move Monday.
A freshman at St. Peter’s, Kim shot a closing-round 78 at the Division II state tournament at Firestone Golf Club’s Fazio Course. She finished with a two-day total of 164, good for 13th place.
Kim shot an 86 on the opening day, leaving her in a three-way tie for 18th. She was one of just nine players to shoot in the 70s Monday.
Columbus Academy’s Eva Lim was the state medalist, finishing with a two-day total of 3-over 143. Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy’s Sophia Fink (147) was medalist runner-up.
Columbus Academy won the team title with a 668. Cincinnati Madeira was finished second with a 695.
Kim’s strong showing at state capped a remarkable freshman season.
She shot an 82 to claim medalist honors at the Valley View sectional. Then, she was medalist runner-up at the Sycamore Springs district with a 76 to become St. Peter’s first-ever state qualifier in girls golf.
