MANSFIELD — Rugged football seasons have been uncharacteristic at Mansfield Senior in recent memory. Yet the Tygers are enduring just such a campaign this fall.

Wooster added to Senior High’s woes on Friday night, earning a 42-24 Ohio Cardinal Conference victory at Arlin Field. It was the Generals’ first Ohio Cardinal Conference win of the season, improving their mark to 2-6 overall, 1-4 in the league.

The Generals got a big night from running back Julian Franklin, who registered 203 yards and two touchdowns.

Franklin’s 55-yard TD dash less than three minutes into the game gave Wooster a 7-0 lead it would never relinquish. His 1-yard touchdown plunge midway through the second period pushed the bulge to 14-0.

Senior High got back in the game when Nate Dismuke returned a pick-six 68 yards to close the gap to 14-7.

But Hayden Meese scored from 3 yards out with just 16 seconds showing in the half to make it 21-7 at intermission.

Griffen’s DeBolt booted a 33-yard field goal early in the third quarter to slice the margin to 21-10.

However, the Generals regained control and Meese capped a third-quarter drive with a short touchdown jaunt.

Grant Beard blocked a Mansfield Senior punt and returned it for a score to open the gap to 35-10. It got to 42-10 and a running clock before Senior High freshman Sean Sey Tanner hit Ny Petty for a pair of TD passes of 37 and 12 yards, to account for the final score.

Petty had six catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns to pace the Tygers. Tanner completed 10-of-23 passes for 180 yards.

Senior High falls to 1-7, 1-4. The Tygers host winless Canton GlenOak next week.
