Samuel M. Zeno, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather of Ashland, OH, passed away on Saturday morning, October 5, 2024, in Wooster Community Hospital following a short illness.

He was born on February 18, 1937, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Michael and Mary (nee Roman) Zeno.

Sam graduated from West View Senior High School, Class of 1955. He furthered his education and earned a bachelor’s degree from Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania in 1960.

He married, the former Anne Hindley, on November 3, 1978

Sam retired in 1997 from Westfield Insurance Company as a claims manager after more than 20 years and previously was employed at Kemper Insurance Company.

Sam was an athlete for most of his life. To say he was a golf enthusiast would be an understatement. In addition to golfing regularly and in a league at Ashland Country Club, Sam was competitive beyond the local level. His teams became Northern Ohio sectional champions in the Oldsmobile Scramble in 1988, 1992, and 1998. These victories qualified them to compete for the national championship at Disneyworld (Orlando, FL) and in Las Vegas. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing basketball as well.

Devoted to honoring his “yinzer” heritage, Sam bled black and gold as a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also loved to travel with his wife and family throughout his life.

Sam is survived by his loving wife, Anne Zeno of Ashland; six children, Maria (David) Zeno-Slutzky of Solon, Allison (Douglas) McCormick of Ligonier, PA, Lisa (David) Lee of Ashland, Tina Zeno of Medina, Amy Simpson of Columbus, and Matthew (Diana) Simpson of Ashland; six grandchildren, Paige Rodgers, Jazmine Stepp, Zachary (Rachel) Zeno, Lucia Stepp, Sydney Stepp, and Samantha Zeno-Slutzky; and four great grandchildren, Lucy Rodgers, Daphne Rodgers, Carly Zeno, and Kellen Stepp.

In addition to his parents, Sam is preceded in death by one brother, Michael (Shirley) Zeno.
In keeping with his wishes, services will be held privately with his family.
