SHELBY — Power outages which began as early as Tuesday are still impacting more than 1,200 Shelby residents who are American Electric Power customers.
As of 1 p.m. Thursday, AEP’s outage map showed one outage within its service area, located around the intersection of Martin Drive North and Rogers Lane.
The outage, reported in an area off of Mickey Road, is currently impacting 1,268 customers, according to AEP’s outage map.
Jackie Orozco, a communications team member for AEP Ohio, said Thursday afternoon that crews are currently on-site and working to find the root cause of the outages.
“There have been outages there since Tuesday,” she confirmed.
“The (AEP crew) is just kind of inspecting the lines right now. They have a whole team trying to figure out exactly what’s causing it.”
Orozco said AEP members on-site currently don’t have an estimate of when the outage will be resolved and power will return.
“Just know that we’re trying to fix the problem as soon as we can,” she said.
Updates regarding the outage, including the number of customers impacted and estimated restoration, can be found on the AEP outage map.

No impact to Shelby electric system
Shelby Director of Utilities John Ensman confirmed Thursday afternoon that the power outages are only impacting the AEP distribution system.
“The Shelby electric distribution system has not been affected by the AEP outage,” he said.
Some Shelby residents located on the south side of town near the Jayne Avenue area — serviced by AEP — are also experiencing a loss of power, the utilities director said.
“From what I’ve been hearing, their electric supply has been interrupted,” Ensman said. “I haven’t heard of the cause for the outage.”
