Sally Williams, age 96, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the Shelby Pointe Nursing Facility in Shelby, surrounded by her loving family.
Sally was born February 25, 1928, in Prestonsburg, KY to Scorch and Nan (Slone) Shepherd. She had been a resident of Shelby for 79 years, since 1945. Sally was known for her hard work ethic and dedication to her work, having worked many different jobs throughout her lifetime. She worked at Struble Drug Store for several years, Snow White Cleaners, and AMF, before retiring from Miami Systems in 1993. After her retirement in 93′, Sally routinely found ways to keep herself busy. She was employed at the Shelby Rythm Bowl for a few years and then again at Snow White Cleaners for another 10 years, before officially retiring at the age of 82.
Sally was a fixture in the local community, wearing many different hats for multiple organizations. She was as a life-time member of the V.F.W and was even voted as Outstanding President for District 10 in 2000. As a member of the V.F.W, Sally marched in local parades for many years representing the organization. She was a member of the Shelby Eagles and served also served as a past President. She was heavily involved with election day serving as a long-time and dedicated poll worker for Richland County. Sally was an avid baseball and basketball fan. Her favorite teams were the Cleveland Indians and Kentucky Wildcats. She was also a supporter of the Shelby Little League, where she volunteered as a score keeper and team mother for many years. Sally loved country music, especially blue-grass music. She loved growing roses, baking, and crocheting. Later in life, she enjoyed entering different items such as canned goods, pies & cakes, and crocheted items in contests at different fairgrounds.
She is survived by one daughter, Susanne Beal, of Loudenville, OH; three sons, James “Jamie” (Kim) Williams of Shelby; Victor (Kerry) Williams of Shelby; and Duane “Duke” (Angie) Williams of Oakridge, TN; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dingus Williams, who passed in 2010; one infant son, Vernon Williams, who passed away in 1947; one toddler son, Jerry Lee, who passed away in 1949; one daughter, Diane Mowry, who passed away in 2017; two granddaughters Deanna Kelso and Amber Williams; six brothers; and two sisters.
Friends may visit at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby from 1:00 PM  to 3:00 PM Sunday, September 16, 2024. Funeral services will be held the following day at 10:30 AM with interment held at Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
