SHILOH — One of the two Shiloh females involved in a horse-drawn buggy/truck crash Tuesday has died, according to the Norwalk Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Barbara Rissler, 16, died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash, troopers said in an email early Thursday morning.
Barbara Rissler, 16, and Dorcas Rissler, 21, were both ejected from the buggy during the crash, the patrol said.
Barbara Rissler was flown by medical helicopter to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in Columbus. Dorcas Rissler was transported by Shiloh EMS to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital with serious injuries.
OSHP said the trash occurred at 7:11 p.m. on Baseline Road near New State Road in Huron County’s Ripley Township.
A preliminary investigation showed a 2015 Chevy 2500, driven by Dustin L. Thompson, 43, of Shelby, was westbound on Baseline Road. A horse-drawn buggy, operated by Barbara Rissler, was westbound on Baseline Road in front of Thompson.
Troopers said Thompson failed to keep an assured clear distance ahead and struck the rear of the buggy.
After the collision, the buggy traveled off the right side of the road. The truck continued westbound before coming to rest on the roadway.
Thompson was not wearing his seatbelt and was not injured as a result of the crash, troopers said.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Shiloh Fire and EMS, Med Flight, and Clark Brother’s Towing.
The crash remains under investigation.
