Catherine E. Fritz, 95, of Mansfield passed away September 11, 2024 at Brethren Care in Ashland.
Catherine was born April 26, 1929 in Mansfield to Andrew and Lucille Seifley Callahan. She was a 1947 graduate of Lucas High School and then graduated from Mansfield Business College and was a life-long member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Catherine started working at Westinghouse, which is where she met her future husband Carl Fritz whom she married on June 5, 1948. She also worked at Reed’s, Flexible Company and retired from Mohican Youth Camp where she was a cook. Catherine was a member of many organizations and enjoyed many hobbies such as cooking and baking, quilting, playing a lot of cards and spending summers at Pleasant Hill Lake. During their retirement years, she and Carl spent the winter months in Arizona and Florida. Although Catherine had many hobbies and stayed busy, her number one enjoyment was all of the time spent with her family.
Survivors include her children Judith (Harry) Waldman of Perrysville, Jane (Doug) Versaw of Lucas, Karen (Gerry) Giordano of Jacksonville, Florida, Jeannette (Ron) Foss of Lucas, Carl (Pom) Fritz of Las Vegas, Nevada, Greg (Gina) Fritz of Henderson, Nevada, and Joe (Rochelle) Fritz of Howard; brother Mark Callahan of Cambridge, Massachusetts; 24 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband; brother and sister-in-law Maurice and Elisabeth Callahan; sister Margaret Ann Callahan; and grandson Nathan Mecurio.
Visitation will take place on Monday from 5 – 7pm with a vigil prayer service at 5:00pm at Herlihy Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Tuesday at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery.
