MANSFIELD — Blue skies and cooler weather greeted participants and residents on Monday morning for the annual Richland County Labor Day Parade, presented by the Mid-Ohio Area AFL-CIO.
The parade stepped off at the five-way light at Marion Avenue and Park Avenue West and moved to Main Street before turning left and ending at the Richland Carrousel Park.
The parade included various labor union organizations, law enforcement and fire departments, the Shriner’s Club, elected officials and candidates and the Mansfield Senior High School Marching Band.
The Mid-Ohio Area AFL-CIO offered a community party at the carousel.
“Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, with festivities often including worker-oriented parades,” said Norm Shoemaker, president of the Mid-Ohio AFL-CIO.
“Here in Mansfield, we have a longstanding tradition of celebrating Labor Day with a parade followed by a community event at the Richland Carrousel Park. Labor unions have always stepped up, providing food, drinks, cotton candy, ice cream, face painting, balloon artists and more — all free of charge to the citizens of our area,” he said.
