Richard Frank Maxwell passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. He was 79.

He was born on August 18, 1945 to parents G. Robert and Edna V. (Milem) Maxwell in Mansfield, Ohio. Dick attended and graduated from Bellville High School with the last graduating class in 1963. After high school, he proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, where he served from 1963-1969 and spent the majority of his time in Vietnam.

After his time in the service, Dick worked in communications management for companies in Arizona and Ohio, and eventually retired from Sprint.

Dick was a longtime and proud member of the VFW Post 9943 in Mansfield and at the VFW Post 2920 in Crestline, Ohio. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and bowling in various leagues, mushroom hunting, big game hunting when he lived in Arizona, attending car shows with his 1947 Ford Coupe, and watching golf, NASCAR, and numerous Ohio sports teams on TV.

He is survived by his son Dakota (Katie) Maxwell, sister Susan (Gene) Hershner, former wife and mother of his son Cherlyn Sue Maxwell, as well as several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces.

Along with his parents, Dick is preceded in death by his brothers Ron and Kenneth Maxwell.

The Maxwell family will receive friends on Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 5 to 7 pm at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Lexington Avenue Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville, Ohio 44273 at 2:15 pm. For those wishing to attend, please arrive at the cemetery and be lined up no later than 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Ohio’s Hospice Life Care in Wooster, Ohio.
