LEXINGTON — Tucked away, along a gravel trail, is a beautiful field filled with a vast array of flowers.
This is the setting for the Walker Flower Farm, at 1861 Hanley Road.
Sunflowers and zinnias are just a few of the flowers customers can pick from, literally. However, there are many other kinds and different varieties of the same flower.
The options are nearly endless when it comes to creating your perfect bouquet.
Upon arrival, a customer pays $20 for a cup, then fills it with as many flowers as possible.
Andy and Deborah Walker announced their business plan last September and opened it July 19, 2024. After enjoying some other local flower farms, the Walkers decided to go for it and launch their own.
“It started that we were growing them just for us, then I thought ‘Well, I could do this,’ ” Andy Walker said. “And here we are.”
With approximately four acres at their disposal, the Walkers hope to expand in the future. Andy Walker said the couple is considering pumpkins as an option for their field in autumn, 2025.
“As far as flowers go, I have about as much as I can handle,” he said.
They couple would also love to open up their farm to more photography sessions.
The Walkers noted that keeping up with the weeds has been the most challenging part of their adventure so far. However, that is overshadowed by the happiness they see from those who come and enjoy their farm.
“Just enjoying being outside and enjoying the flowers,” Andy Walker said. “I have spent a lot of time down here and gotten dull to it.
“So seeing people enjoying it and how amazing it is (that’s the highlight for me).”
The Walkers recently welcomed a son to the family, so tending to him is part of the equation, too.
“We’re just looking for a job that I can do and have a little more time to spend with him and I can bring him with me,” Andy Walker said.
While Walker Flower Farm may be new, it’s steadily growing in popularity. Hundreds of people RSVP to their events each week.
Hours and days vary by the week. The best way to stay up-to-date is by following Walker Flower Farm on Facebook and Instagram. You can find them on Facebook at Walker Flower Farm and on Instagram at Walkerflowerfarmohio.
This is also the best way to reach out for photography sessions.
Andy Walker said he’s started to work on an email newsletter, too. The Walkers encourage customers to tag them in photos with the flowers from their field.
Now is the time to capture those last few weeks of floral brilliance.
