MOUNT VERNON A Mount Vernon resident is in custody after being charged with two counts of aggravated murder in connection with two dead bodies found Wednesday night at 105 South Gay St.

Cameron Ray Moore, 23, was arrested Thursday without incident, according to a Mount Vernon Police Department (MVPD) press release. He is being held without bail pending further judicial proceedings, according to Mount Vernon Police chief Robert Morgan.

Additional charges may follow as the investigation continues, according to the release. Authorities believe Moore acted alone and was the sole assailant in this crime.

At approximately 10:02 p.m. Wednesday, the Mount Vernon Police Department responded to an apartment building, The Terrace, on a requested welfare check.

When officers entered the apartment, two adult victims — one male and one female — were located.

The release stated both individuals were deceased and there wasn’t anybody else in the residence. The building was secured as a crime scene.

The victim’s names will continue to be withheld until the family’s consent or other judicial proceedings are made public, according to Ohio Marsy’s Law.

There is currently an active arson investigation at The Terrace after a fire broke out on the second- to third-floor stairwell July 21.

This is a developing story.
