Louis Wayne Kennedy went home to be with the Lord on August 13, 2024, at the age of 83.

Louis was born to Jim and Ruth Kennedy on August 8, 1941 in Clinchco, Virginia. When he was 9 years old, he and his family moved to Mansfield, Ohio. After graduating from Mansfield Senior High School in 1960, he enlisted in the Navy in 1963 during the Vietnam War draft. Most of his Navy career was spent aboard the USS Kearsarge. His tour of duty took him to several locations around the world.

In 1970 when his Navy enlistment ended, he came home to Mansfield where he met the love of his life, Jean York. They were married a year later, and had one child, Patricia (Kennedy) Courser.

Louis was an avid fisherman and even went into business with his brother-in-law and sister-in-law on a trout farm in Grand Haven, Michigan where he and his wife lived until returning to Mansfield in the last few years. Louis enjoyed talking about his Navy days, calling them the Uncle Sam’s Canoe Club, and talking about his favorite author, Louis L’Amour.

He is survived by his beautiful wife, Aleta Jean Kennedy, his daughter Patricia (Wesley) Courser, two grandsons, Dakota (Angie) Wilson, Bryce Courser, three great-grandchildren, Elisa, Oliver, and Avery Wilson. Louis is also survived by his sister Barbara Byron, nephews Mark (Ann), James and Patrick Robinson, and niece Sara Earhart.

There are no memorial services or calling hours planned at this time.
