MADISON TOWNSHIP — The Madison Local Schools board of education approved pay raises for Supt. Rob Peterson, Treasurer Bradd Stevens and non-teaching staff during a special meeting Wednesday night.

The board of education voted unanimously to approve a 2-percent base salary increase for Peterson for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years and a 2-percent base salary increase for Stevens for the 2024-2025 school year.

The board also approved contracts with the district’s Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE) union, which represents non-teaching staff like custodians, maintenance staff, bus mechanics, cafeteria workers, building secretaries, teachers’ aides, special education aides, one-on-one special education aides, library technicians, bus drivers, bus aides, the district electrician and computer technicians.

The new raises take effect retroactive to Aug, 1 and span the next three school years.

Over that time period, OAPSE employees will receive a 2-percent base salary increase year. Health insurance premiums will increase by 1 percent over the three-year period. Employees’ out-of-pocket maximums will increase by $250 for single in-network, $500 for family in-network, $500 for single out-of-network and $1,000 for family out-of-network.

Peterson said the district will also drop its 4-percent contribution to the School Employees Retirement System of Ohio and instead add 4 percent to member’s salaries.

Peterson and school board member Tim Wigton both spoke positively of the negotiation process.

“It was a great negotiation. It was very easy to talk with them,” Wigton said. “The agreements on those issues were very positive.”

According to Peterson, the agreement was worked out in just two meetings.

“They went very smoothly,” he said. “I think it was a good, fair agreement for both sides.”

Peterson said negotiations with the teacher’s union, the Madison Local Education Association, are ongoing.

The board also approved a $61,460 boiler replacement project at Madison Early Childhood Learning Center and the following classified substitute pay rates:

  • $12.50 per hour for cooks
  • $13.50 for secretaries/administrative assistants, aides/paraprofessionals, custodians, summer mowers/extra help
  • $18 for bus drivers
