MANSFIELD — Third Street Family Health Services is helping children and families with the support they need to thrive.
For the fourth year, the network of community healthcare centers will celebrate its annual block party.
The event will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, from noon to 3 p.m. This year, the block party is changing locations and will be at Malabar Intermediate School, 205 West Cook Road.
Organizers say the event will not be held at Third Street Family Health Services this year so the party can focus on the relationship with Mansfield City Schools.
“Malabar Intermediate School is our in-school clinic’s home,” said Third Street development director Alex Goff.
“Malabar Care Connect has served Mansfield’s students and teachers It makes sense to celebrate them here.”
Fun and care
During a day of family fun, Third Street will provide $20 sports physicals, no-cost hepatitis C and HIV testing in its mobile healthcare vehicle, raffle prizes, free food, and more.
No appointments are required for the physicals. For more information, call 419-522-6191 or follow event updates on Third Street’s Facebook page.
“Good health is one of the best ways to set your child up for a successful school year,” said Goff.
Instead of giving away book bags, this year, there will be a school supply drive to benefit Malabar Intermediate School students and teachers.
Attendees who bring a new, unopened school supply will be entered into a raffle for prizes such as Ohio State University football tickets and a mini vacation package. One entry per person.
The block party is part of Third Street’s recognition of Health Center Week, Aug. 4-10.
For more than 30 years, this week has been designated to celebrate the care and services the centers provide to communities.
In addition to providing primary medical care, these facilities help address barriers to care such as mental health and substance use disorder.
Nationally, the health center network serves more than 30 million people.
The last day of Health Center Week is always designated Children’s Health Day. According to healthcenterweek.org, more than 8.8 U.S. children receive their primary care from a community health center.
Support all year
Third Street opened Malabar Care Connect in 2019. Initially, it served the students, staff, and families at Malabar Intermediate School.
Now, the clinic serves all Mansfield public school students and their families.
The clinic is used for well-child check-ups, sports physicals, sick visits, and behavioral health services. It is a convenient option for parents who may lack transportation or have tight schedules.
The clinic also has community health workers from Third Street onsite daily to connect students and families to local resources such as housing help, food banks, mental health, and transportation.
“Poor health can impact how well a child performs in school,” Goff said. “We are proud to offer easy access to supportive care for better outcomes.”
