James Allan Lomax, 83, was born June 9, 1941 in Mansfield, Ohio and passed away on July 22 in Charleston, South Carolina.

Jim was a 1959 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School. In 1960 he enlisted in the United States Marines Corps where he served for four years before attending Ohio State University. On October 6, 1990, Jim married his beloved Barbara Elaine.

He was employed by Gorman Rupp for more than 38 years starting as a development test lab employee before retiring in 2003 as general manager of the IPT Pumps division. Barb and Jim also owned and ran the Frederick Fitting House Bed & Breakfast in Bellville, OH. They retired to Shepherd, MT, followed by their move to South Carolina. Jim learned to love the outdoors in his youth as a Boy Scout and later in life he enjoyed camping, fishing, and bird watching.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Barbara; his father Roger Lomax and mother Elsie Garber; stepfather Alpheus W. Garber; brother Richard E. Lomax; and stepsister Judy Mielke.

He is survived by his children Melissa Speelman (Joe) of Cincinnati, OH, Rebecca Lomax (Jon Dugan) of Chicago, IL, and Michael Lomax (Lori) of Columbus, OH; and stepchildren John McClenahan (Darcy) of Billings, MT, and Jeannie Milota (Ken) of Mount Pleasant, SC. In addition, he is survived by his brother William Lomax (Diana) of N.Y., and his stepsister, Marilyn Gunn of Columbus, OH. He has seventeen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 9 from 10-11 am at Herlihy Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday at the funeral home with Rev. David Sipes officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
