LEXINGTON — Lady Lex’s run to the regional final didn’t go unnoticed across northwest Ohio.
Makaree Chapman, Jillian Morr and Kylie Galownia were all selected to the Division II first team when the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association unveiled its All-Northwest District teams recently.
The Lady Lex trio was joined on the first team by Clear Fork’s Melodie Blubaugh and Shelby’s Mallary Gundrum.
A junior left-hander, Chapman was one of the area’s premier pitchers. She was 21–3 with 238 strikeouts and a 1.67 earned run average. At the plate she batted .506 with 34 runs batted in.
A speedy leadoff hitter, Morr was Lady Lex’s offensive spark plug. She batted .490 and scored 42 runs.
Galownia was one of the area’s most productive run-producers. She batted .516 with 24 RBIs while scoring 38 runs.
Clear Fork reached the district final and Blubaugh was a big reason why. She batted .512 with 25 RBIs and 44 runs scored.
Gundrum returned from a knee injury to lead Shelby to a share of the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference crown. She batted .549 with seven home runs and 50 RBIs.
Five other area players earned All-Northwest District honors. Lexington’s Kaylie Eichorn, Shelby’s Kendal Parsons and Ontario’s Trista Jewell were second-team picks, while Clear Fork’s Katrina Rogers and Shelby’s Natalie Kennard were honorable-mention selections.
Division I
Madison reached the district final as a No. 6 seed and had three players recognized as all-district.
Pitcher Layla Azmoun was a second-team pick in Division I, while Kyleigh Reiter and Izzy Wamsley were honorable-mention selections. Azmoun was 20-6 with a 2.22 earned run average and 217 strikeouts in 164.1 innings of work. Reiter batted .560 with 34 RBIs, while Wamsley hit .436.
Division III
Crestview’s P.J. Endicott and Sophie Durbin both landed on the all-district first team in Division III.
A junior, Endicott batted .519 with eight home runs and 37 runs batted in. Durbin batted .500 with 24 RBIs.
Colonel Crawford’s Riley Hoepf, Hannah Allen an Allison Weithman were second-team selections. Wynford’s Brooke Frombaugh was an honorable-mention pick.
Division IV
Crestline’s Lillian Higgins was the only area player to earn a spot on the all-district first team in Division IV. She batted .692 this spring.
Mansfield Christian’s Bailee Nelson and Noel Cline were both honorable-mention picks.
