Legacy Academy of Excellence and NAMI Richland County will present the “2nd Annual Black Mental Health & Wellness Symposium" on June 19.

MANSFIELD — Legacy Academy of Excellence and NAMI Richland County will present the “2nd Annual Black Mental Health & Wellness Symposium” on Wednesday, June 19.

The celebration highlighting the importance of mental health and wellness in the African American community will be from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Legacy Academy of Excellence, 215 N. Trimble Road.

The symposium will address the challenges of mental health in the black community and the support provided to those affected along with those who are supporting loved ones with a mental illness and breaking the cycle of the school-to-prison pipeline.

In collaboration with the Mansfield UMADAOP, North End Community Improvement Collaborative, Mansfield/Richland County Public Library and Richland County Children Services, the free event will include dinner, fun activities, and celebration for the entire family.

Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. for the welcome reception and the symposium will begin at 3:00 p.m. with dinner and activities.

 About the Symposium                                                                

The symposium is sponsored by Richland County and the Ohio Department of Health Grant funding in an effort to expand health and wellness services. Grant funding is utilized to provide information and support at the local level to people affected by mental health conditions and those supporting loved ones with a mental illness. A committee of seven individuals were assembled to design a symposium experience that provides outreach, support, and education.
