Richard “Dick” Newcomer passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2024. He was 88.
He was born on March 26, 1936 to parents Jesse and Carrie Belle (Smith) Newcomer in Ashland, Ohio. After Dick was graduated from Ashland High School, he proudly served his country in the Ohio National Guard.
On September 24, 1960, he married Patricia Smith, and they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage together. The couple were longtime members of the Grace Episcopal Church in Mansfield.
Dick worked at Tappan for many years until they closed, and continued his career at Hi Stat and the YMCA.
In his spare time, he took pleasure in bettering himself through his physical fitness. Dick was an all-around fitness enthusiast, often writing about different techniques and inspiring others in their fitness journeys as well. He also enjoyed studying weather patterns and always enjoyed a good book.
He is survived by his wife Pat Newcomer, children Julie Newcomer, Tom Newcomer, and Jamie (Tish) Newcomer, as well as his grandchildren Blake, Ava, and Hank.
In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by his brothers Russell, Everett, Harold, Norman, Robert, and Stanley Newcomer, sisters Francis Harned and Marge Gorman, and infant sister Marilyn.
Private family services will be held to honor Dick’s life.
