Robert J. “Bob” Thiel, 87 of Ashland passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, June 6, 2024 in his home with his family by his side.

He was born on November 15, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late John and Ethel (nee Chandler) Thiel.

Bob graduated from Hayesville High School, Class of 1956. He married the love of his life, the former Sally Humble on October 30, 1959.

He was previously employed at Archway Bakery; then started Thiel’s Home Solution in 1967 having retired in 2001.

Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed learning about new technology, especially the stock market, and learning how politics works. He loved to travel to Serenity Bay in North Carolina and get togethers with friends and family. Bob was always grateful to be a friend of Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob.

Bob enjoyed golfing, participating in local car shows and traveling the United States racing high performance boats. He was always his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s biggest fan at their sporting events in their lives.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mrs. Sally Thiel of Ashland; one daughter, Denise (Mitch) Appleby; one son, Eric (Pamela) Thiel; four grandchildren, Zachary (Sarah) Appleby, Jordon (Rhiannon) Appleby, Anthony (Emily) Thiel and Chelsey (Cory) Dematis; and six great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A private family interment service will be held in the Ashland Cemetery with Dr. JoAnn Ford Watson presiding.
