BELLVILLE: Carol Ann (Walker) Guiler did not misspend a moment of life. Carol passed away at her home on May 28, 2024 at the age of 84 after spending a life full of adventure, love, and vibrant joy.

The daughter of Robert and Idabelle (Gatton) Walker, Carol was a fixture in Bellville, the community where she was born, raised, and raised her own family. She graduated from Bellville High School before spending most of her career at the Bellville Truck Stop as a waitress. She eventually came into a position at G. I. Plastics where she worked until retirement at age 62.

Her children recall Carol’s hardworking and meticulous nature, from keeping a tidy home to canning the family garden’s harvest every year. Now in adulthood and raising children and grandchildren of their own, they are grateful for the profound sense of work ethic she bestowed upon them. Imbued with a creative and near-restless nature, Carol honed a talent for flower gardening and crocheting, and often enjoyed a night at the theatre. After retirement, Carol’s family helped her become a traveller, foregoing gifts in favor of facilitating exploring the world. Her exploits took her with her family to Italy, Spain, Ireland, Germany, and most recently, Peru. While stateside, Carol never missed a chance to take her dog Frisky for a walk, often logging five miles a day. She was ready to go anywhere and do anything at a moment’s notice. Those who loved her admired her intrepid and vivacious nature. She never failed to be present in every passing moment.

Carol was preceded in death by former husband Wallace Guiler and daughter Peggy Guiler.

She was at the center of a large and loving family, including children Frederick (Diane) Guiler, Robert (Julie) Guiler, Michael (Angela) Guiler, and Debora Guiler; grandchildren Matt (Alex) Guiler, Bob (D’Mara) Guiler, Chris (Celeste) Guiler, Katie (Zack) Lehman, Joseph (Kim) Guiler, Ashley Willison, Logan (Megen) Willison, Emerald Guiler, Anthony Guiler, and Jake Rushworth; eleven great-grandchildren; siblings Robert (Diana) Walker, Linda Rempt, and Patricia (David) Dumbaugh; sister-in-law Mary Berringer; and many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Carol’s family invites loved ones to join them on Friday, May 31 from 3-7pm for calling hours, and at 10:30am Saturday for a funeral service at Snyder Funeral Homes’ Bellville-Butler Chapel with burial following at Owl Creek Cemetery. Celebrant Christine Radojcsics will speak at the service. Donations in Carol’s memory may be made to Richland County Humane Society.
