SANDUSKY COUNTY — A 37-year-old Sandusky County man was killed Thursday when his vehicle collided with a horse in the road, according to the Fremont Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The riderless horse was also killed, according to the patrol.
The crash occurred at 5:42 a.m. on Sandusky County Road 32, just south of County Road 85 in Madison Township, according to the patrol.
A 2015 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Adam Madaras of Helena, was traveling northbound on County Road 32 when his vehicle struck a horse in the roadway in the pre-dawn hours.
After striking the horse, the car went off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole, troopers said.
The patrol said Madaras was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Madaras was taken by medical helicopter to Toledo Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office,
Madison Township Fire Department, and Sandusky County EMS.
The crash remains under investigation, the patrol said.
