Gerald Richard Nunn, 80, of Greenville, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on May 17, 2024. After a lengthy and heroic battle against cancer and Alzheimer’s disease, Gerald passed peacefully in an environment of love, surrounded by his wife, children, and his devoted dog, Chase, by his side.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 47 years, Pam Nunn (Branch) of Greenville, South Carolina; sons Gerry Nunn of Mansfield, Ohio, and Dustin Nunn of northern Virginia; daughters Gina Nicholson of Worthington, Ohio, Genelle Eggerton of Fredericktown, Ohio, and Tori Belmont of Fishers, Indiana; grandchildren Korey Eggerton, Reed Nicholson, Christian Nunn, Clive Gillam, Daphne Gillam, Elise Nunn, and Calvin Belmont; and great grandchildren Ethan Eggerton and Aubrie Eggerton.

Gerald was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Elbert Nunn and Anne Nunn (Simmons) of Mansfield, Ohio, and his dear sister, Betty Lane, of Lucas, Ohio.

Though short in stature, Gerald Nunn was a giant among men. He is remembered for the kindness and generosity he showed to everyone he met, his dedication as a husband and father, his gentle mentorship to those with whom he spent time, the number of friends he made throughout his lifetime, and for being an all-around exceptional person. Gerald’s favorite place was his home and he loved spending time with his wife and family, visiting with friends, tending to a campfire, riding his Kubota, and tinkering in his workshop.

Gerald worked hard his entire life, provided a wonderful life for his family, and taught his children the value of dedication and hard work. For 39 years, Gerald did what he loved as a carpenter for General Motors in Mansfield, Ohio, where he was widely respected and counted many of his coworkers as close friends. Concurrently, Gerald ran a roofing business for close to 30 years, putting in countless 16-hour days so that he could provide his family with opportunities he did not have while growing up.

Gerald was known for always being there for his family and friends, he remained boundlessly in love with his wife throughout their 47 years of marriage, was beloved by his parents, his siblings Betty Lane, Ben Nunn, Sandra Bever, Margie Arney, Sharon Sigler, his dear mother-in-law, Dorthy Branch, brothers and sisters-in law, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his many nieces and nephews, and he was the center of his dedicated canine sidekick’s universe.

Gerald was a steadfast and committed Christian who gave his time and resources to support his church family and share his love for Jesus Christ with others. He was a long-time member of Mansfield Baptist Temple, and later a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Through many of life’s trials, Gerald drew peace and inspiration from Mark 4:39, “And He arose and rebuked the wind and said unto the sea ‘Peace be still’. And the wind ceased, and there a great calm.”

Gerald was an accomplished All-Ohio defensive back, champion wrestler, and accomplished pole vaulter for Madison High School, from which he graduated in 1962. Gerald enjoyed wood working, lawn maintenance, spending time outdoors, the feel of the sun on his skin, golf, and spending time with his good buddy, Larry Kurek.

A memorial service celebrating Gerald’s life will be held at a later date.
