MADISON TOWNSHIP — Madison High School has announced its 2024 Valedictorian and Salutatorians.

Listed below are the individuals profiles for each student. Photos were included whenever possible.

Alivia Ash

Alivia Ash

Valedictorian

Parents: Edward & Kelly Ash

Activities or Notable Achievements: Alivia is co-historian of National Honor Society, a member of student council, a member of executive committee, and a member of OCC Leadership. She is a 2 year letter winner in both basketball and softball, and won the conference championship in softball. Alivia enrolled in the health technologies program in career tech, earning CPR certification and an STNA license. She is also co-owner of a school social media account, The Herd.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study): Alivia will be attending Bowling Green State University majoring in graphic design and minoring in digital marketing.

Activities or Notable Achievements: Joshua is a 3-year varsity letter winner for golf and state champion in carpentry.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study): I plan on pursuing a path in the skilled trades working under my own name.

Layla Azmoun

Activities or Notable Achievements: Layla is a 4-year letterman in softball and 2-year letterman in cross country. Layla was 2023 OCC pitcher of the year. Layla participated in 2 years of symphonic band and 3 years of chorale. She was a member of the 2021 district championship softball team, a member of the 2022 OMEA district championship group in symphonic band, a member of the 2022 OMEA State championship group in symphonic band, a member of the 2022-2024 OMEA district championship group in chorale, and a member of the 2022-2024 OMEA State championship group in chorale. Layla was elected to the 2023 Homecoming Court. She also received an award for a 2023 OHSAA athletic scholar award.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) Layla plans to attend The Ohio State University, main campus, and major in Public Affairs Journalism. She is in the Honors Program at OSU.

Activities or Notable Achievements: Hannah is treasurer of National Honor Society, was the treasurer of BPA during her junior year and president of BPA in her senior year. She won 1st place in BPA regionals for payroll accounting and advanced interview skills and 2nd place at BPA State for advanced interview skills. Hannah won the Top Mentor award during her senior year for the Mansfield Friendly House. Through her career tech program, she became certified in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint, making her a Microsoft Specialist.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) Hannah plans to attend Kent State University to major in accounting and minor in business management.

Olivia Barley

Activities or Notable Achievements: Olivia is a 3-year varsity letter winner in volleyball and was awarded defensive player of the year during her senior year. She was a 3-year varsity cheerleader. She is a member of National Honor Society, a member of student council, a member of OCC Leadership, editor of the Madison yearbook, and a 4-year member of Madison choir. Olivia has also been a competitive dancer for 15 years for Sophistication Dance Company.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) Olivia plans to attend Bowling Green State University in the fall. She plans to study architecture, interior design and business.

Activities or Notable Achievements: Tyler is a National Honor Society member, varsity Academic Challenge team captain, a member of symphonic band, a member of jazz band and senior class vice-president. Tyler was a 2-time member of the MOESC Academic Challenge team and a 2-time member of the State regional qualifying team for Academic Challenge. He also received the OMEA superior rating at symphonic band large group competition.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) Tyler will be attending North Central State College in the fall for basic undergraduate classes toward his Associates Degree. He plans to then attend an out-of-state university for a TBD major but definitely plans to minor in music or music composition. His top schools under consideration are: Pitt, University of Minnesota, The Ohio State University and Cleveland State.

Karsyn Blust

Activities or Notable Achievements: Karsyn was a 3-year cheer letter winner, a 2-year volleyball letter winner, a member of student council, a member of MSI, a member of National Honor Society, a member of OCC Leadership, and a yearbook editor. She is the health and safety officer of her 4-H club, Great Expectations. She also is receiving an Honors Diploma.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college or field of study) Karsyn will be attending Ashland University, majoring in chemistry while also cheering and dancing.

Colin Carroll

Activities or Notable Achievements: Colin was treasurer of BPA during his senior year. He won 1st place in personal finance management at the regional BPA competition, 2nd place in Excel at the regional BPA competition and won Best Mentor for Mid-Ohio Youth in 2023. Colin is certified in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, designating him as an Office Specialist.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) Colin will be attending The Ohio State University to major in actuarial science.

Jillian Conard

Jillian Conard

Activities or Notable Achievements: Jillian ran cross country for 4 years, played softball for 4 years, was a Ramette for 2 years, was in choir for 3 years, was a member of student council for 2 years, and was class secretary for 3 years. Her freshman and sophomore years she ran at district competition for cross country. In her freshman year, the team made it to the regional finals in softball and in her junior year they won the OCC and received the highest team GPA award. In women’s chorus during her sophomore year, they won a superior rating at both the district and State competitions. During her senior year, women’s chorus and chorale earned a superior rating again at both competitions. She was also part of Skills USA, earning 2nd place silver medals at the regional competition during both her junior and senior years in the prepared speech category. During her senior year, she won the 3rd place bronze medal in the same category at the state competition. Jillian was also a member of National Honor Society during her senior year.

Jacob Ford

Activities or Notable Achievements: Jacob is a member of the Academic Challenge team, the Fellowship of Christian Anybodies, National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America, Ontario Christian Church youth group, Madison musicals, marching band, pep band, drama club, and a member of Madison’s Cybersecurity Career Tech department. He received 1st-place achievements for Academic Challenge league and tournament competitions, 1st chair saxophone for Madison’s audition-only symphonic band which earned a proficient score at OMEA state competitions and is Comp TIA certified for IT Fundamentals.

Student Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) Jacob is on track to earn his degree at Kent State University for the next 4 years. His goal is to earn a dual major in computer science and mathematics.

Justin Gibson

Justin Gibson

Activities or Notable Achievements: Justin participated in cross country from 2020-2024, in track and field from 2021-2024, and in wrestling in 2023. He participated in Academic Challenge from 2020-2024, in marching band from 2020-2024, was the marching band section leader in 2023-2024, was in pep band from 2021-2024, was in solo and ensemble from 2023-2024, and was in BPA competition in 2022-2024. He participated in Fellowship of Christian Anybodies from 2022-2024, in National Honor Society Executive Committee from 2023-2024, and in Mansfield Free Will Baptist community service from 2023-2024. In cross country, Justin was a 4 year letter winner, won 1st place at the 2021 Richland County B-Dry Invitational, and won the Coach’s Award in 2023. In track and field, Justin was a 2-year letter winner (soon to be 3 year) and won the Hardest Worker Award for 2 consecutive years: 2022 & 2023. In band, Justin was voted Most Athletic for band superlatives 2023-2024, voted Most Like Mr. Dillon and Best Marcher for band superlatives 2024, received OMEA large group superior rating at both regional and State competitions in 2022, received OMEA large group regional excellent rating: 2023-2024, and received OMEA solo and ensemble superior rating for class B music: 2023. Justin has been on the honor roll, all A’s, for all quarters from 2020-2024 and was a scholar athlete from 2020-2024. In Academic Challenge, he has been on the varsity team for 2 years, been Richland County champion and regional qualifier both spring and fall in 2023, was fall tournament runner up in 2023 and fall OCC runner up in 2023. In BPA competition, Justin placed 1st in regionals for Computer Network Technology in 2023, 3rd place in regionals for Device Hardware & Troubleshooting in 2023 as well as a state qualifier, won 1st place at regionals for Cisco Network Administration and Broadcast News Production Team in 2024 as well as being a state qualifier. Justin received the Franklin B Walter Representative scholarship for Richland county at MOESC.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) Justin plans to pursue a major in electronics and/or computer hardware engineering, potentially a double major depending if a scholarship requires him to take computer science or software engineering. Specifically, he plans on attending Bowling Green State University under their honors college program and living in the honors learning community.

Activities or Notable Achievements: Ethan is a 3-year letter winner in baseball, and a 2-year letter winner in football. He received OCC honorable-mention for baseball. Ethan is a member of Skills USA and a member of National Honor Society.

Activities or Notable Achievements: Alisha is a 4-year varsity track and field member, and 4-year letter winner. She was a 3-year regional qualifier, a 2-year regional finalist and placer. She is also a part of the Madison Student Initiative team.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) Alisha plans to attend Muskingum University to continue her education in exercise science and Spanish. She wants to be an athletic trainer who advocates for Hispanic student athletes struggling with language barriers.

Cielo Jacobus

Activities or Notable Achievements: Cielo was a 3-year volleyball letter winner. She was awarded Division I, 2nd team district 6 honors. She was a 4-year swim team letter winner and 2-time district qualifier. Cielo was a member of National Honor Society and an active member of Mid-Ohio Youth Mentoring.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) Cielo chose to finish her last year of high school attending Pioneer’s College Now Program and graduated with an Associates of Arts degree in business. She will continue into the workforce to fulfill a career in marketing and finance.

Activities or Notable Achievements: William is a 3-year letterman in football and track, a 2-year letterman in basketball, and a 1-year letterman in tennis. He twice received 1st team All Ohio in football and 2-time honorable-mention All Ohio in basketball. He also is a member of National Honor Society and Student Council.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) William plans to go to either Ohio Wesleyan or Heidelberg to play football and major in both education and pre-law.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) Peyton plans to attend Ohio University to study middle childhood education, math and social studies. She will be in the Connavino Honors Program in the Patton College of Education.

Aiden Mooneyham

Activities or Notable Achievements: Aiden is a CCP student and has been accepted into the University of Akron’s Williams Honors College. He is the Sergeant of Arms for National Honor Society, and has been class president for both his junior and senior years. He is a member of symphonic, jazz, concert, pep and marching bands. He received 3 superior ratings and 1 excellent rating at OMEA solo and ensemble. He is a member of chorale. Aiden received a superior rating for band and choir at OMEA large group at state competition. He is a member of the OMEA district 10 honors band, a member of The Ohio State University honors band during both junior and senior years, has been accepted into The Ohio State University honors jazz band, was awarded the Governor’s Merit Scholarship, was section leader of the percussion section, and was the recipient of the Mansfield Noon Optimist Club’s High Quality Student award. Aiden attended regionals twice with the Academic Challenge team, winning 2nd place in the OCC competition. 

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) Aiden plans to attend the University of Akron to pursue a degree in aerospace systems engineering.

Activities or Notable Achievements: Irelyn ran cross country for 3 years in high school. She also has been in band since 5th grade. She is a member of jazz, symphonic, and concert bands. She has volunteered for karate camp and for her church. Irelyn took self-defense classes at the YMCA.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) Irelyn plans to go to Bowling Green State University and Findlay University to obtain a degree in pharmacy.

He is a member of National Honor Society, a member of student council, a member of MSI, and a member of OCC Leadership. He twice received honorable mention all conference in football, and honorable-mention all district in football. He was also voted Homecoming King.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) Grayson is planning to attend Ashland University for exercise sports science and hopefully continue playing football. He would like to continue further and obtain his master’s degree in athletic training.

Activities or Notable Achievements: Karlie is a varsity letter winner in soccer, both football and basketball cheer, and track. She is in OMEA honors choir, ACDA national honors choir, jazz choir, and musicals. She has received 5 superior ratings at solo and ensemble, and 2021-2024 OMEA chorale district championship. She is a member of student council, National Honor Society, a 4-year scholar athlete, a 4-year superintendent’s list award winner, a member of the children’s church ministry, member of worship team at her church, is receiving an honors diploma and a Noon Optimist award recipient. She studies voice lessons and tumbling at Heart of Ohio Athletes. Karlie has 34 college credit hours and is a sales associate at TJ Maxx.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) Karlie plans to attend the University of Findlay to study exercise science. She will also be part of a 3+3 program as a segue to get her doctorate in physical therapy.

Activities or Notable Achievements: Kyleigh is a 4-year varsity starter in softball and tennis. In softball, she is a 2-time All OCC honorable-mention, 2nd team All-OCC in 2023, academic All-Ohio, 2-time NW district 1st team selection. Kyleigh was also a district qualifier in golf in 2023-2024. She was a member of the culinary arts program, served as president of Skills USA, FCA and OCC Leadership.

Student’s Plans for Further Education (college and field of study) Kyleigh will be furthering her academic and athletic careers, majoring in agriculture and playing softball at Dordt University in Iowa.
