MANSFIELD — A new partnership between the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library (MRCPL) and PCs for People will make technology more affordable for those in need.
The partnership will also provide low-cost, high-speed internet solutions. As part of the launch of their new partnership, MRCPL will be hosting a pop-up shop on Saturday, June 1.
From 10 a.m. to noon, eligible customers will have the opportunity to purchase a $150 laptop, a $75 desktop computer with monitor, keyboard, and mouse, or a $60 internet hotspot.
MRCPL encourages pre-registration for the event in order to guarantee eligibility. To pre-register and check eligibility requirements, click here.
“This partnership with PCs for People will support the goal of bridging the digital divide in Richland County, but it will also help get essential devices needed for virtual schooling, career assistance, and more into more homes,” says Chris May, Library Director.
PCs for People is a national nonprofit social enterprise dedicated to providing refurbished computers to eligible customers at affordable prices.
The organization works by refurbishing and selling used computers, laptops, tablets, and non-tube TVs.
In addition to providing affordable tech, MRCPL and PCs for People also encourage community members to recycle any unneeded electronics by dropping them off at a electronics recycling drive on Saturday, June 1.
Used computers, laptops, tablets, non-tube TVs, and other hardware can be dropped off in a truck parked in the Main Library’s east parking lot.
