James Dale Shoenfelt
James Dale Shoenfelt (86) passed away in his Lexington home on May 9, 2024. The son of Guy and Ruth (Zeger) Shoenfelt, Jim was born on August 24, 1937 in East Liverpool, Ohio. Jim graduated from Johnsville High School in 1956. He and his beloved wife Nancy were married on September 28, 1957, and were blessed with two children, their daughter Dee (David) Johnson and late son Steve Shoenfelt. He enjoyed the love of and the time spent with his grandchildren, Sarah and Jack, and a large extended family.
Jim is remembered by those who loved him as a talented fixer of all things. He worked for 39 years at Fisher Body in the welder maintenance department. In his free time, his talent shone through in his ability to create and repair – whatever the chore, he was up to the task. He preferred laying floors, hanging crown molding, fixing lamps, relandscaping, and even painting a room instead of being idle. He could create an end table, bookcase, play stage or a one-of-kind window seat from a suggestion. Always hardworking and dependable, his kindness came forth in service to others, and his quick sense of humor. When he wanted to relax, you could find him on the golf course enjoying a round, on the ski slopes enjoying the snow or playing a game of cards with friends or family. Never giving up on his dreams, he went skydiving at the age of 82.
He is survived by his loving spouse Nancy; daughter Dee; son-in-law David Johnson: his grandchildren Sarah and Jack; sisters, Janet Griffeth and Linda Black; sisters-in-law, Jane (Phil) Plummer, Marilyn Arnold, and Peggy Shoenfelt and many adoring nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents; son Steve; grandchild Callie; and siblings David Shoenfelt, Joe Shoenfelt, Richard Shoenfelt, Ruth Ann Wilson, and Jean Miles.
A memorial service celebrating the life of James D. Shoenfelt will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday June 15, 2024 at Deer Ridge Golf Club, 900 Comfort Plaza Drive, Bellville, Ohio 44813 where a reception will follow until 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Richland County Foundation for the Steve Shoenfelt Memorial Scholarship Fund.
