Tami Lynn Simms, aged 65, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 12, 2024, which was Mother’s Day—a fitting day to remember a woman who dedicated her life to being a loving mother.
Born on June 3, 1958, in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Fred Eugene Hout and Willamae (Kennison) Hout. Throughout her life, Tami held various jobs in the community, including positions at the post office and cleaning offices. However, her true calling was that of a mother and homemaker. Tami’s greatest joy was caring for her three children, creating a loving and vibrant home filled with activities like trips to the zoo and visits to family. She ensured her children had a beautiful childhood filled with adventure and love.
Tami had a passion for shopping, particularly for shoes, and could often be found finding deals at Walmart. She also loved dogs, especially her sweet rescue, Ginger, who will soon await a new home at the Richland Co. Humane Society (if anyone feels a tug on their heart to adopt Ginger, please contact them!). Tami turned her apartment building into a tight-knit community, frequently assisting her neighbors with errands and fostering a spirit of togetherness.
Her role expanded joyfully to that of a grandmother, a title she cherished deeply. Tami quit smoking the moment she became a grandmother, illustrating her enduring commitment to her family’s wellbeing. Her grandchildren brought her immense joy, and she relished the role with all her heart.
Tami’s memory will be cherished by her children, James Benjamin II, Chadwick Benjamin, and Teasha Benjamin (and her boyfriend Jarvis Stanford), all of Mansfield. She was a proud grandmother to James “Juice” Benjamin III, Miles Benjamin, Adriana Parsons, Willie Mollett, T’Shiona Benjamin, and Jayla Stanford. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, as well as the father of her children, James Benjamin Sr., and her beloved dog, Ginger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Karen Hout just last week, Cathy Hout Rolle, and Kenny Kenison, and her husband, Joe Simms.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at Snyder Funeral Homes, Marion Avenue Chapel, 350 Marion Ave, Mansfield, Ohio 44903, on Monday, May 20, 2024, with the service starting at 11:00 and friends are invited to stop by for visitation the hour prior to the funeral.
