Paul L. Brandes age 81 of Mansfield Ohio passed away on April 28, 2024 at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby, following an extended illness. On June 30, 1942 he was born in Cleveland Ohio to the late Adelbert and Leona Brandes. On September 6, 1964 he married Eloise Jean Hinze and together they shared 60 years of marriage. Paul taught ninth grade English at Olmstead Falls high school. Then he changed career paths to study for the ministry. His call led him to Faith Lutheran Church in Mansfield, Ohio. He retired and served as a substitute teacher for several Richland County schools.
Paul played on the softball team in North Ridgeville, Ohio, where he and his family live for many years. He played bassoon for the Cleveland Area Community Orchestra. Paul loved to show his children and students his many yo-yo tricks. He loved fishing and taking the family camping in Michigan and many Ohio State parks. Paul is survived by his wife, Eloise; his daughters, Laurel and Marcia (Pete); son, Gregory (Dee); as well as grandsons, Joshua and Sam; sister-in-law, Tina and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Mark; sister, Christine along with several uncles, aunts and cousins.The family would like to thank Crestwood Care Center for the caring attention he received while he was there, along with Southern Care Hospice for the help and support of Paul and his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at South Park, 100 Brinkerhoff Ave, Mansfield, OH 44903. Light refreshments will be served.
