A long line of vehicles rolled into the Richland County Fairgrounds on Saturday morning for the first 2024 Richland County Solid Waste District event that allowed residents to properly dispose of household hazardous waste. A similar event will be offered Oct. 19. The event offered free disposal of many things like old gasoline, propane, fluorescent bulbs, lawn chemicals, paint, used oil, polishes, aerosols, pesticides, batteries, household cleaners, insecticides, fertilizer and pool chemicals. The event from 8 a.m. to noon was sponsored by Environmental Enterprises, Inc., the Richland County Fairgrounds and Richland Public Health.
