Bette M. Urschitz, age 81, of Mansfield, passed away late Sunday evening, April 7, 2024, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.

She was born November 14, 1942, in Butler, Ohio, to the late Frederick “Fritz” and Marguerite (Brooks) Wentz. Bette was a strong willed, adventurous person and retired as a “Gal Friday” at several prominent business. She loved her animals, especially her cats. Bette had a love for nature and panned for gold in the southern United States. She was a member of the Gold Prospectors Association.

In her younger years, she enjoyed racing her stock car and ice skating. Bette was an antique dealer and collector of many items especially coins and crystals. She was an amazing neighbor and was always thoughtful of her community.

Bette is survived by a stepson, Michael (Lauren) Urschitz; daughter, Robin; step grandson, Dakota Wert and family; several grandchildren; and ten beloved cousins, Deborah Patterson, Bonnie Taylor, Leile Ernsberger, Martha Cole, John Hamilton, Pam Patterson, Sharon (Lannie) Cooper, Charlene Jones, Teddy Wentz, and Merle Wentz.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Urschitz; and several cousins.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00-5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Wappner Funeral Directors-Ontario, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. A memorial service celebrating the lives of Walter and Bette will immediately follow at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. Erwin Urschitz officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Richland County.
