MANSFIELD — Judy Forney can no longer be two places at once.

The interim treasurer of Mansfield City Schools submitted her 30-day resignation notice to the board of education on March 27.

Forney was hired as Mansfield’s interim treasurer in December through a shared service agreement with Mount Vernon City Schools, where she works as a treasurer full-time.

Forney said she was happy to assist the district after it parted ways with its former treasurer Tacy Courtright. However, her responsibilities at Mount Vernon now require her full attention.

“Now that we are approaching the end of the fiscal year, it is clear to me that I am no longer able to serve both districts adequately,” Forney wrote in her letter of resignation.

Forney wrote that the workload in school fiscal officers is “much heavier” in the months of May through August as districts are wrapping up their fiscal year and budgeting for the upcoming school year.

She also said Mount Vernon is in the process of exploring a facilities project with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission.

“We are now scheduling our Facilities Committee meetings and our Community Outreach meetings as we move through this process,” Forney explained.

“As Treasurer, it is critical that I attend every one of these events, making my scheduled very busy starting at the beginning of April.”

In addition, Forney’s daughter Jennifer Kime was recently elected to the Mansfield City Schools Board of Education, which oversees the treasurer’s office.

Forney said she was happy for the opportunity to serve her alma mater over the last four months.

“It has been a great honor to serve as Interim Treasurer for the district where I was born and raised, graduated, currently reside and where my precious grandchildren attend,” she wrote.

“I worked hard and tried to help solve problems and provide good fiscal leadership during my time here.”

Mansfield City Schools posted its treasurer job in conjunction with the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center in March. The job posting closes Thursday.

The school board will conduct interviews in conjunction with the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center the week of April 22, Director of Personnel Mark Wilcheck said.

District leaders say they hope to fill the treasurer position with a permanent, full-time candidate by the end of the month.
