Merle Lee Queer, 91

Merle Lee Queer, 91 of Ashland passed away on Tuesday afternoon, April 9, 2024 in Belmont Tower at Brethren Care Village.

He was born on September 17, 1932 in Berlin, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Myron Levi and Mamie Elizabeth (nee Rose) Queer.

Merle graduated from Berlin Brothersvalley High School in May 1950. Following his graduation, he went onto further his education at Ashland College. After one year, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Merle proudly served from 1953-1955; and was honorably discharged having earned the rank of Corporal (Trans Army Res MPC).

He married the love of his life, the former Patricia H. Mundorf on August 18, 1956.

Merle retired after more than 30 years from the General Motors Company on October 1, 1995.

He was a member of the First Brethren Church of Berlin, Pennsylvania; and Ashland’s Park Street Brethren Church. Merle was also a long-time member of Harry Higgin’s Post 88 of the American Legion.

Throughout his life, he loved to hunt and fish, bowl, attend his children’s softball games, play Euchre, and attend Big Band Jazz concerts. Merle was a long-time member of the Richland County Hunt and Fish Club.
He is survived by his children, Barbara and Shane Queer; Shane’s family, Jill and granddaughter, Shannen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Merle is preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Mrs. Patricia Queer who passed away on December 7, 2008; one sister, Evanelle Fox; and three brothers, Alfred and John Queer and Thomas Quinn.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Dr. John Shultz presiding. The Ashland Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. Interment will be in the Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
