In Loving Memory of Paul James Hickey

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul James Hickey, 90, who peacefully left this world on April 6, 2024 after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness.

Paul was born October 6, 1933 in Berea, OH, the son of the late Thomas A. and Helen V. (nee Schoenherr) Hickey.

He moved to Ashland in the 1950’s and had a longstanding career with ODOT, retiring in 1997.

Paul married the love of his life, the former, MaryLou Sherman on September 28, 1957.

He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. His love for golf was a source of joy and camaraderie, providing him with a space to unwind and create lasting memories with friends. In the quiet moments, he found pleasure in tending to his yard, and maintaining bird feeders.

Paul is survived by his wife of 66 years, MaryLou Hickey; five children, Doug (Beth) Hickey, Dan Hickey, Maureen (Mark) Smith, Brian (Christine) Hickey, and Brenda Kelly; six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Edward Catholic Church with Father Rod Kreidler presiding. Interment will follow in the Ashland Cemetery where the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Heart Association, 1375 E 9th St #600, Cleveland, OH 44114 or the Knights of Columbus, 501 Cottage Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805.

For those unable to attend, online condolences may be shared on the funeral home’s website at denbowfh.com.

May his memory live on in our hearts, and may we find solace in the rest he now has with his Lord in his eternal home.
