Leona I. Hunter, 92, passed away at Primrose Retirement Community on Friday, April 5, 2024.

Born in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania to Paul and Anna (Keebaugh) Koser. She graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in the class of 1949, and attended Kent State. Leona retired as a benefits representative for General Motors for over 28 years where she was a strong advocate for women’s rights in the workplace. She treasured her family and valued time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Enjoying socializing, Leona was a member of the Daughter of Herman. She also enjoyed Thursday afternoon socials at Primrose and meetings with her sorority sisters. Until the passing of her late husband, Jim, she enjoyed traveling with him and the two spent many winters together in Texas and Florida. She delighted in listening to audio books, reading and a good shopping trip.

Those left to cherish the memory of Leona are her children, Valerie (Alan) Liston and Steve (Glenda) Hunter; her grandchildren, Samuel (Tabatha) Hunter, Jennifer (Carl) Rountree, and Gary Hunter; her great-grandchildren, Angelina, Caitlyn, Allison, Isabelle, and Alexander; her sister, Lynda Windsor; special nieces and nephew, Stephanie Hunter, Debora Hunter, Alan Koser and Lutisha Windsor; her special friend, Toni Zehe; and many cherished family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, James “Jim” Hunter; and a brother, Bob Koser.

Family will receive guests from 10:00-11:00 am on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Wappner Funeral Directors-Mansfield, 98 S. Diamond Street. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am. Leona will be laid to rest in Mansfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wayfinders Ohio, 124 W. 3rd Street, Mansfield, OH 44903.
