Roger Lee Cooper, Sr., 71, of Iberia passed from this life on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at his home with his sons by his side.

Roger was born on September 23, 1952, in Lincoln Co., WV to the late James and Dora (Cochran) Cooper. On December 16, 1972, Roger married his true love, Dora McCoy, and they shared 48 loving years of marriage before Dora preceded Roger in death on July 7, 2021.

Roger was a true outdoorsman, finding joy in activities like fishing, mowing, and riding his beloved side by side. He had a special talent for working on cars and heavy machinery, a skill that he generously shared with others.

In addition to his passion for the outdoors and machinery, Roger was an avid coon hunter with a world champion coon dog, a dog so good that it landed them a feature in Cooner Magazine. If Roger was not in the great outdoors, you could find him watching any classic Western film he could find on TV.

Roger is survived by his two sons who will cherish his memories: Roger (June) Cooper, Jr. of Iberia, and James Cooper of Iberia. Roger will be missed by his grandchildren: Joycieanna Cooper and Roger Cooper III; great-grandchild: Lillianna Skie Marlow. Roger also leaves behind siblings: Iva Jean Skiles, Jack Cochran, Betty Jo Mansfield, Jerry Cochran, and Debbie Watson.

In Roger’s life he had known the heartache of loss, in addition to his parents, and wife, Roger was preceded in death by his daughter: Diana Cooper; grandson: Cameron Bateman; and siblings: Ruth Watts, James Cooper, Cora Sue Cooper, Edward “Elwood” Cooper, Anna Mae Cooper, Evermont Cooper, and Tawana Hunley.
