Ronald Charles Hawthorne, 73

Ronald Charles Hawthorne, 73 of Ashland passed away on Friday evening, March 29, 2024 in the Good Shepherd Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on January 27, 1951 in Shelby, Ohio the son of the late Charles Thomas and Janice Lucille (nee Clark) Hawthorne.

Ron graduated from Shelby High School, Class of 1969. Following his high school graduation, he proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy he made a life for himself in Cyprus, California where he resided for more than 40 years. In 2013, after his retirement, he returned to Ashland County to be closer to family.

Throughout his life, he was a member of the Church of Christ. Ron enjoyed riding motorcycles and competitively racing remote control cars, boats, and airplanes.

He is survived by his cousin, Dennis (Patricia) Clawson of Shiloh, and their son, Arnold Tad Clawson of Mansfield; two brothers, Russell (Tina) Hawthorne of Wilmington, North Carolina and Randall (Carol) Hawthorne of Cyprus, California; and many extended family members.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. William Payne presiding. Interment will be in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio where full military honors will be conducted. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
