Lexington: Ingrid B. Griffiths, age 88, of Lexington, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024 in OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born January 3, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Adolf and Inge (Meynhardt) Brunkhorst. She graduated from Fairview High School and attended Capital University where she earned her bachelor’s degree.

During a church group meeting she met young Thomas Griffiths from Mansfield. They began a long distance courtship until they were married April 15, 1961. The couple made their home in Lexington where they raised their family.

Ingrid worked many years as a Case Manager at Richland Newhope, retiring in 1998.
She was a long-time member of the former Christ Lutheran Church in Lexington where she taught adult Sunday school and was active in the women’s circle. More recently she was a member of Southside Christian Church.

In her spare time, Ingrid enjoyed bowling league with her friends at Lex Lanes, playing bridge and sharing trips with Tom as part of the Freedom Years group. What brought Ingrid the most joy was spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife and mother, and cherished her granddaughters and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 63 years Tom Griffiths of Lexington, son and daughter-in-law David (Stephanie) Griffiths of Lexington, daughter and son-in-law Ruth (Mark) Rafeld, granddaughters and their spouses Molly Rafeld (Ben Kimmel) of Worthington, and Emily (Caleb) McClain of Mansfield; two great grandchildren Jacob McClain and Nora McClain; and dear friend Barbara Penno.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law Ted and Margaret Griffiths, and sister-in-law Margaret “Margi” Griffiths.
