James E. “Ed” Toms, age 76, of Lucas passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024, at the Ohio Health Hospital Mansfield with his loving family at his side.

He was born on January 19, 1948, in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Beryl E. and Ethel (Strang) Toms. Ed was a 1966 graduate of Lucas High school and was a Lucas resident his whole life. He provided for his family by being an over the road truck driver and was a member of Mansfield Baptist Temple. He was an avid sports fan and followed all local high school teams closely. Ed was known for his sense of humor, and he enjoyed playing pranks and telling jokes. His personality could be stern, yet he was also incredibly soft-hearted.

He is survived by his wife, of over 56 years, Mary (Holland) Toms; his daughters Tonia (John) Kopp of Loudonville, Danyelle (Brian) Sauder of Lucas, and Heather (Todd) Hall of Wheelersburg; eleven grandchildren, Robert (Darian) Kopp, Nicholas Kopp, Mikala (Ryan) Thomas, Makenzie (Quinton) Foss, Jaclyn (Wyatt) Alt, Brian Sauder, Ethan Sauder, Brandon (Samantha) Hall, Laikyn Hall, Shalyn Hall, and Braxton Hall; eight great-grandchildren, Saige, Sawyer and Luka Kopp, Theo, Declan, and Ashton Thomas, and Natalie and Nicole Foss; his sister Sue Ann Eden; his brother David Toms; his brother-in-law David Holland, his sister-in-law Sue Adkins; his brother-in-law George (Linda) Shepherd; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his stepmother Hala Toms; his brother-in-law Ron Eden; his sister-in-law Pat Holland, his step-brother Danny Adkins; and his step-sister Diana Shepherd.

The family would like to thank Ohio Health Infusion nurses and Hospice for their kind care of Ed.

Friends may call on Monday March 25th from 5-7 pm at the Snyder Funeral Home – Lindsey Chapel in Loudonville. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday March 26th at the funeral home beginning at 11 am with Pastor Robert Kurtz officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Union Cemetery, Perrysville.
