SHELBY — Shelby City Schools put on a district-wide pep rally Friday morning for the Dayton-bound boys basketball program.

Students and staff members packed the high school gym while music and cheers from the Shelby High School marching band and cheerleaders filled the air.

After the rally concluded, Shelby boys basketball players exited the gym and walked straight onto a bus waiting to depart for Dayton.

A parade of law enforcement vehicles provided the Whippets with an escort down Championship Drive and downtown Shelby.

The second-ranked Whippets (25-2) will compete in a Division II state semifinal on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Zanesville Maysville (25-3) at UD Arena in Dayton.
