Mansfield: Dolores Marie Smith passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024 in Wedgewood Estates. She was 94.
She was born March 1, 1930 to parents Joseph Martin & Regina Ivo (Mattingly) O’Bryan in West Louisville, Kentucky. Dolores graduated from Mt. St. Joseph Academy with the class of 1948.
On April 3, 1951, she married Donald C. Smith and they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage until he passed away in 2009. Now they are together again.
She worked as an assembler at Dominion and Westinghouse for 22 ½ years before retiring in 1990.
Dolores was an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and was involved in funeral meals, bake sales and Eucharistic ministry. She was a member of Daughters of Isabella for over 50 years. She volunteered at Red Cross blood drives and donated 15 gallons of blood (that is 120 donations).
In spare time, she enjoyed playing Cribbage, Pinochle, Hand & Foot as well as Scrabble. She enjoyed road trips with her husband as well as camping, traveled to all 50 states, across Canada, and Europe and Australia. She loved working in her flower garden, crocheting (she even made afghans for all her children and grandchildren) and she enjoyed the companionship of the poodles she had over the years.
She is survived by daughters Regina (Ray) Burkhalter, Sharon Russell and Cynthia (David) Eilenfeld; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her loving husband Donald Smith, she was preceded in death by her parents; son Gregory Smith; grandson Paul Burkhalter; siblings Sister Ursula Marie O’Bryan, W. Hugh O’Bryan, Monsignor J. Aloysius O’Bryan, J. Wilbur O’Bryan, Father Henry O’Bryan, Martine Ward, Bernard O’Bryan, Louis O’Bryan and Rose Cecil; son-in-law William Russell.
The Smith family will receive friends Friday, March 22, 2024 from 4-6 p.m. in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 in St Peter’s Catholic Church, 60 S Mulberry St. Mansfield, OH 44903, beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery.
