Florence Jean Jones Steiner, 87 passed away on March 12, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with dementia.

Jean was born December 22, 1936 in Lucas, Ohio. A 1955 graduate of Lucas High School, Jean was very active in class plays and musicals, and enjoyed singing in ensembles throughout her high school years. Jean was employed at the Tappan Company in the late 1950’s. She later worked as a school secretary in Mansfield and held various other secretarial positions.

Throughout her life, Jean was very involved in church activities of all kinds. Her deep and abiding faith gave her peace and comfort, especially these last years. A member of First Congregational Church, she took great joy attending services with her family. Jean was a proud member of DAR and enjoyed representing the Jared Mansfield Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to sew and took great pride and pleasure in making many elaborate costumes for her children and grandchildren for school plays and holidays. Jean was an amazing baker and enjoyed baking for school parties where she became known as the Cupcake Queen serving as honorary room mother to Beth’s classes for over 30 years.

Jean was preceded in death by James Emory Steiner.

She is survived by daughter Beth Steiner and son Scott Steiner of Mansfield; grandchildren Scott (Jessica) Steiner Jr. of Summerville, South Carolina, Emily Steiner of Conway, South Carolina; great grandchildren Tripp, Reese and Smith Steiner; nieces Deb Stewart Bellamy, Cheryl Stewart Lantz and Kim Stewart Jacot.

Friends may call at Herlihy Funeral Home, 173 Park Ave. West, Friday March 15 from 5:00-7:00pm. A funeral service will be celebrated 2:00pm Saturday March 16 at First Congregational Church, 640 Millsboro Road. A private family burial will take place following the service at Mt. Zion Cemetery Lucas, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church Music Department.
