Robert “Bob” Humeston passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at OhioHealth Mansfield after several years of declining health. He was 78.
He was born on December 31, 1945 in Battle Creek, Michigan to parents Warren and Ruth (Green) Humeston.
Growing up in Michigan, Bob graduated from Tekonsha High School in 1964 and then went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tri-State College (now Trine University) in Angola, Indiana.
On August 23, 1968 he married the love of his life, Marilyn Macky, and together they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage.
Bob served his country as a member of the Michigan and Ohio National Guard units for 6 years.
In 1971, Bob moved to Mansfield, Ohio to accept a job at Ideal Electric, where he worked for 14 years. After that, he accepted a position with General Motors where he worked until his retirement. Not one to sit idly by, he then took a part-time job at the Hampton Inn performing various maintenance tasks, where he worked for several more years.
Bob was an active member of the First Congregational Church, serving on many boards and committees over the years.
Bob was a quiet guy but had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He was a kind and gentle soul who always looked for the best in people. In his spare time, Bob was a skilled wood worker and enjoyed collecting all different kinds of tools. Golf was his passion, though, and he was always striving to improve his game. As an avid sports fan and a native Michigander, it was sometimes difficult for him to cheer on some of the Ohio teams. However, he eventually—although reluctantly—became a Buckeye fan. Above all else, he cherished his family and was very supportive in all his son’s activities, including coaching his soccer team and serving as treasurer for the Boy Scout troop.
He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn, son David (Amy Popp) Humeston, special cousin Gerry (Bonnie) Greene, and a circle of close friends.
In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his brother Mike Humeston.
A memorial service honoring Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 1 pm at the First Congregational Church, 640 Millsboro Road, Mansfield, Ohio. The family invites guests and friends to join them in the church fellowship hall (Blymyer Hall) at 2 p.m. to share memories of Bob.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory can be made to the First Congregational Church or to the OhioHealth Delay the Disease program at https://foundation.ohiohealth.com/delay-the-disease.
