Virginia M. “Ginny” Young, age 95, passed away peacefully, Friday, March 1, 2023, at the Willows of Willard Nursing Facility with her loving husband of nearly 75 years by her side.

Born October 12, 1928, in Monroeville, Ohio to Henry and Mary (Heether) Hohler, she had been a Shelby resident since 1941. A 1946 Shelby High School graduate, she attended the Minnick Beauty School in Mansfield. Ginny had been a beautician at Edythe’s Salon for numerous years as well as opening her own shop at home. She had also been employed at Stevenson’s Drug Store as a high school student. She was a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Altar & Rosary Society.

In her free time, she enjoyed quilting, making crafts, and baking. She especially enjoyed decorating cakes for her grandchildren’s birthdays. She was also known for her mints, hard tack, strawberry pies, Easter chocolates, and cherry nut bread. Her greatest joy in life was her children, grand children and great grandchildren. She loved spending time with them and never missed an opportunity to see them. In 2005, she and her husband received the Jess Rath Community Volunteerism Award for service to her community.

She is survived by her loving husband, Charlie Young, whom she wed June 25, 1949; their four children; Richard (Becky) Young, Elisabeth (Randall) Terman, Mark (Sherry) Young, Dale (Susan) Young all of Shelby, OH; 13 grandchildren, Brett (Cheryl) Young, Todd Young, Scott (Sue) Young, Jeff Young, Kerri (Alan) Tramontana, Cassie (Ryan) Mumm, Brady (Jenny) Terman, Stacy Terman, Megan (Tristan) Herstol, Aubrey (Nathan Ream) Young, Aaron (Laura) Young, Tyler (Paige) Young and Trevor Young; 17 great-grandchildren with one on the way; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Laurence, Clifford, Dennis Hohler and sisters Agnes Link, Dorothy Seiler, Edna Herlihy and infant sister, Elizabeth Hohler.

A funeral mass will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Father Chris Mileski will officiate with internment held in the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery in Shelby at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Most Pure Heart of Mary School or to the church for mass.
