Sandra Lynn “Sandy” Russell, age 77, of Shelby, died unexpectedly Saturday, February 10, 2024 at her home.
Sandy was born October 1, 1946 in Shelby to the late Forrest A. and Kathleen (Cashen) DeLong. A 1964 graduate of Shelby High School, Sandy most recently enjoyed spending time with classmates at their monthly luncehon. She also attended cosmetology school following graduation. For many years, Sandy worked at Miami Systems in Shelby and later worked at Broshco Fabricated Products in Mansfield.
Family was so very important to Sandy. She loved her grandchildren deeply and enjoyed attending all their sporting events and activities. More recently, her time was entirely devoted to her great grandchildren and caring for them. Sage, her dog, was certainly family too and was a faithful companion.
Sandy is survived by her children: Scott (Erica) Straker of Crestwood, KY, Beth (Marc) Hartz of Shelby, and Becky Russell (Matt Kropf) of Perrysburg; grandchildren: Alec (Laura Lee) Straker, Whitney (Chandler) Durbin, Nathan Straker, Kaitlyn (Dylan) Osborne, Kearsten Morrison, Zack Hartz, Jaret Straker, Tanner Hartz, and Conner Hartz; great grandchildren: River and Raina Durbin with one more on the way; brothers: Jim (Donna) DeLong of MI and Bill (Kathy) DeLong of AZ; and other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William K. “Bill” Russell on March 6, 2019.
Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 from 5-7 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, Ohio 44875. There will be no funeral services.
