Doris A. May Allen, age 92, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Bucyrus Community Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Born February 13, 1931, in Shelby to William and Mae (Hollenbaugh) May, she had been a lifelong Shelby resident. Doris had been employed as a cook with Shelby City Schools for over 30 years before her retirement and was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

Doris found comfort in baking. Sometimes even in the late evening hours, she would make her way to her kitchen to whip up a batch of homemade cookies. A kind soul, she was blessed with the gift of hospitality. She would frequent friends living at Park Village, bringing them brunches and some of her famous baked goods. Doris looked forward to her weekly lunches with “The Church Gang”, where they shared many good conversations and laughs. She loved music, attending concerts and playing the organ.

She is survived by her children; Sandra (Michael) Phillips of Leesburg, VA, Susan (Lonnie) Crider of Lenzburg, IL and Robert Allen of Crestline, 23 grandchildren, numerous great grandchild and great-great grandchildren, her sister; Betty Lasch of Shelby; as well as many other relatives and close friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Allen on December 11, 2013, grandson, Travis Dale Crider; and three brothers, Thomas, Robert, and William May.

Friends may visit at the First Lutheran Church; 33 Broadway St. in Shelby on Doris birthday, Tuesday, February13, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A Funeral service will be held immediately following at 12:00 PM. Reverend Dr. Russel Yoak will officiate with interment held in Oakland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church Pipe Organ Memorial Fund at 33 Broadway St. in Shelby or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-9959
