BELLVILLE: A man’s strength is only as good as his word, and Steve Hoffer was both strong and trustworthy. Steve loved nature. He loved to hunt, fish, to work in his garden, and he loved his family. No longer at battle with his illness, Steven Allen Hoffer passed away at home, Wednesday evening, February 7, 2024 surrounded by those he loved the most, his family and friends. Steve was 69.

The son of Carl and Karol (Miller) Hoffer, Steve was born April 30, 1954. For 37 years he was a faithful employee at PPG where he worked as a maintenance mechanic. It was at PPG that he first met Stephanie, his soon to be wife. On December 16, 2006 the two were married.
Steve’s happiest places were on the water or in the woods. He was a member of the Richland County Fish and Game. Steve enjoyed hunting and taking hunting excursions. Those included trips to Alaska, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Canada. He had a love of shooting and competed in trap shooting tournaments. Steve raised and trained bird dogs as well but had a special bond with his β€œbest friend” pitbull-Toad. He fished anywhere and everywhere, mainly throughout Ohio, but did enjoy extended fishing trips as well. Steve always had a side project in the works, usually restoring a pickup truck. He was currently in the middle of restoring a 1960’s Ford pickup. He tended to his vegetable garden each growing season.

Anyone who knew Steve, knew that he was a Bigfoot fanatic….and swore that he had more than one encounter. He was naturally funny and made a habit of making everyone laugh. Just last week in the midst of his illness he kept his sense of humor… that was Steve.

Steve is survived by his loving wife Stephanie (Porter) Hoffer; children Arron Hoffer, Valerie Hiles, Drew Hoffer, Lauren Hoffer, Samantha Rumbolo, and Jak Raven; grandchildren Julia, Jenna, Miley, Brandon, Brady, Sabrina, Madison, Braxton, Lilly, Alice; great grandson Elias; sister Cindi Crossman; mother-in-law Anita (Joel) Daniel; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Ceilann Hoffer, Jason (Kitty) Porter, and John Porter; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Randy Hoffer and Craig Hoffer; and brother-in-law Dick Crossman.

The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is honored to assist Steve’s family with private cremation services. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
