MANSFIELD —  The Lights on Forest Hill, a local holiday light show synced to music, is expanding into the Halloween season.

Located on Forest Hill Road in the Woodland neighborhood of Mansfield, the Crundwell family will feature five nights of light shows synced to Halloween-themed music.

The shows will run from Friday, Oct. 27, through Halloween night from sunset until 10 p.m.

The 2023 Halloween show uses LED intelligent lights to create stunning show effects. Each light or ‘pixel’ can be programmed to change color or turn on or off based on how it is programmed.

There are more than 2,600 pixels in this year’s display.

“I’ve always been a fan of Christmas lights and have done a light display on the house,” said homeowner Jason Crundwell.  “A few years ago, we started to do more complex shows synced to music.

“First, with traditional consumer Christmas lights, we’re slowly migrating to all-pixel technology. As much as I’d like to have 20,000 pixels in our show, what we can do is what we can fit into the budget each year.”

The Halloween show will feature songs including GhostbustersWalk the Dinosaur, and remixes of The Imperial MarchThriller, and Bad Blood Taylor Swift mashup.

Visitors can listen to the music for the show on 93.1 FM.

“Our youngest child has Autism, and he gets very excited when we get into light season. If we let him, he’d be out there every night,” Crundwell said.

“We also love seeing the smiles on children’s faces when they come to watch.  I’m also grateful that our neighbors are good sports and allow us to indulge in this hobby.”

After the Halloween show is complete, the Lights of Forest Hill will go dark until Thanksgiving, when the Christmas shows begin. The light shows will continue nightly until New Year’s Eve, although Crundwell says he may do a special Taylor Swift mashup night.

“There’s a great community of people who generously share their sequences for their shows. My daughter found a Taylor Swift mashup. She wants us to adapt it into our show, so if we can get it done, we’ll do a night sometime in November.”
