Jeffrey L. “J.O.” Rebman, age 73, of Bellville passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2023 in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born August 24, 1950 in Mansfield to the late Kenneth and Janette (Krichbaum) Rebman and graduated from Lexington High School in 1968. Jeff worked in landscape maintenance most of his life and was privileged to work with his father at the Rebman Company. Later in life he also worked for Argus Images.
On July 2, 1972 he married the love of his life Linda Carol Roe with whom he shared 34 years and raised their two children Eliah and Misty. Linda preceded him in death in 2006.
Jeff enjoyed spending time socializing with friends as a member of American Legion Post #535, Bellville, William Naylor AMVETS #83, and Robert L. Castor VFW #5101 in Lexington. He also maintained a membership of the Fraternal Order of the Moose in Swansboro, NC strictly for visits with his brother and sister-in-law.
Ardently all American Jeff knew what he stood for, was strong in his convictions, and make no mistake about it, Jeff didn’t mince words. He enjoyed firearms collectibles and attending gun shows. An avid gardener, he and Linda kept a plentiful garden with peppers, tomatoes, garlic and other vegetables. He became mostly focused on garlic, selling it at the Bellville farmer’s market at the start. However, he grew such a vast clientele as “the garlic man” that he surrendered his booth for direct sales and simply sharing with any left-over garlic with friends and family.
Jeff was a great fan of classic rock music, especially The Grateful Dead. He collected vinyl and loved going to see live bands and listening to his Sirius Classic Vinyl channel. Never one to veg out in front of the TV, Jeff was always outdoors keeping immaculate landscaping, fishing, and dabbling in outdoor work. He passed time getting lost in a good suspense novel, or watching movies. Jeff was faithful when it came to attending all the grandkids sporting events, even if the sport wasn’t his cup of tea, he refused to miss. He was most content sharing time with his family.
Jeff is survived by his children Eliah Rebman and Sarah Hootman of Bellville, and Misty and James Lyon of Bellville; five grandchildren Justice and Jalen Rebman, Alyssa (Isaiah) Overholt, Bryce (Mikayla) Lyon, and Ashton Lyon; a sister Sandy (John) Nixon; a sister-in-law Bonnie Rebman and a niece Taunia (Randy) Hetz.
In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by a grandson Jesse Craft; older brothers Scott “Crawley” Rebman and Doug “Tube” Rebman; and a nephew Richard Nixon.
The Rebman family is planning a celebration of life at a later date. The Bellville Snyder Funeral Home is serving the family with cremation arrangements, please visit snyderfuneralhomes.com to leave a message of support.
