Jerry Franklin Decker

MANSFIELD:  Jerry Franklin Decker, age 85, of Mansfield passed away June 1, 2023 in his home following a brief illness.

He was born April 7, 1938 in Macomb, Illinois to the late Arbon Frank and Mary Darlos (Booz) Decker.  Jerry began his education in a one room school house.  His family moved to Hamilton, Illinois when he was 8 years old where he attended Elvaston Grade School, then Hamilton High School where Jerry was active in athletics.  He graduated with the class of 1956. 

Jerry was a farm boy and worked on the family farm until he went into the Army in 1961.  He was stationed in Georgia and served three years before he was honorably discharged in the fall of 1964.  Following his military service, he relocated to Michigan and worked at General Motors as a quality engineer.  When the Michigan plant closed, he moved to Mansfield, Ohio and continued there until his retirement in 2007.  He devoted 40 years of loyalty to GM. 

His loved ones include his wife, Carolyn Decker of Mansfield; daughter Stacey Decker of Michigan, son Jeffrey Decker who preceded him in death in 2022, and their mother Ila Decker.  Also surviving is his brother Kent Decker of California, two adult step children Lisa Bailey and Tom Schnegelsberger.
