SHELBY — The YMCA of North Central Ohio’s karate school held its monthly belt test on April 1 at the Shelby branch gymnasium.
Thirty students were present and each received an attendance stripe or a promotion, which entailed the next belt rank or a rank stripe on their belt.
Adrian Potts was named Student of the Month for April.
According to Sensei Cole, Potts was chosen due to his excellent leadership skills. despite being the youngest in the class. Cole also praised Potts’ knowledge and predicted he would be an exceptional teacher in the future.
For those interested in beginner classes, the YMCA of North Central Ohio offers classes at its Mansfield Branch on Monday and Wednesday at 4 p.m. for ages 5 and 6. It offers classes Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Friday at 5 p.m. for ages 7 and up.
The Shelby branch offers beginner classes on Tuesday and Thursday at 5 p.m.
