NEW LONDON — Crestview left no doubt whatsoever about its designs on a Firelands Conference championship.
The Cougars hammered New London 70-25 in a road conference win Friday night to wrap up the school’s first boys basketball league title in 23 years.
Coach John Kurtz’s team roared to a 24-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back. The Cougars fashioned a 36-9 halftime advantage and 55-17 gap through three periods.
Crestview’s Heath Kash nearly outscored the Wildcats all by himself, registering 21 points. Owen Barker contributed 14 points, while Justice Thompson chipped in 12 points for the Cougars.
Crestview improved to 17-2 overall, 11-0 in the Firelands Conference. This marks the program’s first conference championship since the 1999-2000 season. Kurtz’s club hosts Mapleton on Thursday.
The Wildcats dropped to 2-16 overall, 0-12 in the league. They will host Western Reserve on Thursday.
